A Flicker of Light Chapter Eighteen
Story Summary: A canon divergent AU in which Luke Skywalker is raised within the Empire to be either his father's heir as a Sith Lord… or his replacement.
Chapter Summary: Luke makes a deal with Bail Organa.
FFN II AO3
----
Luke had played the scenario over and over again in his mind on the flight to Alderaan, all the while hoping to spark some kind of glimpse into the future. He had imagined what he had thought was every different angle this conversation could play out. Best case - far fetched as it was - Organa would accept the intel and the two of them would settle on the terms of the arrangement. The absolute worst case - equally as far fetched, he thought - was that the Senator would turn him over to Palpatine for treason. There was a whole range of possibilities between those two, but in every scenario he'd assumed Organa would say something. This utter silence was deafening. And nerve wracking. It was grating on already dangerously frayed nerves.
He pushed a quick breath out through his nose. "Did you hear when I said this is time sensitive?"
"Does he know?"
Luke set his jaw, willing the calm into his voice. "You're going to have to be more specific."
"Your father. About my daughter."
"You're focusing on the wrong thing. Palpatine has —"
"Does your father know about my daughter?" Bail Organa ground out as he stood, using his desk to leverage himself. "If you've put her in danger…"
"He wouldn't hurt her."
It was Organa's turn to give a dismissive snort, but he looked to swallow the immediate response before it tumbled into the open where it couldn't be taken back. He still stood stiffly, leaning slightly on the massive desk between them, and his dark gaze bore into Luke. "You may believe that, but nothing else - no matter what it is - will be discussed until you answer my question."
Luke pulled in a breath. This was a waste of time, but he didn't have a choice. Organa was balanced perfectly in a place of access and - at least as far as his mother had believed - trustworthiness. Without him, Luke had no way to reach anyone that could help him destroy the monstrosity Sidious was building. Everything had a cost, and as absurd and petty as Organa's fear was, the truth seemed to be the price of being heard out on this.
Slowly, Luke released the breath. "It's not my secret to tell, and there's no reason for him to think I'm anything but an only child."
Organa's tense stance eased ever so slightly. "You knew."
The younger man shrugged. "I felt it when I met her, but it was just a hunch. I didn't know for sure until I saw this." He reached into his robes and pulled the disk he'd taken to carrying around with him. Organa's eyes widened as Padmé Amadala's smiling face appeared. "No one but me knows why I went looking. I won't be the one to tell anybody."
"Not even Leia?"
Luke flicked his thumb across the switch, the image disappearing. "It's not my secret to tell," he repeated carefully. Though he imagined Leia would find out someday. The Force was strong with her. It would lead her where she needed to go.
A long moment passed before Organa finally nodded, accepting the statement as truth.
"I'm coming here as much for her as I am for us," Luke said firmly, trying to steer the conversation back on topic. "The ISB has never been able to prove that your diplomatic missions are a cover to provide aid to the Rebellion and your seat in the Senate has protected you, but if the Death Star is completed, there'll be no need for the Senate. Palpatine will rule by pure, brutal force."
"Something that destructive, how could it even be powered?"
"Kyber crystals. The same that power a lightsaber. Just…. Bigger, I imagine. I've gotten ahold of the director of the project and he thinks Palpatine sent me to confirm everything is on schedule. I gave him two standard weeks to prove to me he's even capable of scaling the power source."
The colour washed out of Organa's face. "You're going to destroy a planet?"
"No. That'd bring all eyes on it. It'll be subtle. But my point is I have his ear and he's desperate to prove himself. I can get you information on it."
"And what do you expect me to do with that?"
"Don't play games. The ISB can't prove it, but we all know you have links to the Rebellion. They have firepower. Maybe not enough to overthrow the Empire, but if I can find a weakness in the design —"
"And what do you want in return?"
And this is where things got tricky. It was the only way he survived this. That his father survived. The problem was that voicing it in any other way than a vague dream to Mara left him terrified. This was treason. Active, intentional treason.
"A way out. For me, for my father, and a… friend, if she'll come. We'd all be able to bring in more intelligence than a hundred of your Fulcrum agents could ever dream of."
Organa's brows drew together, his tone skeptical as he spoke. "And your father wants this?"
"Father knows the two of us don't survive if Palpatine does. He's always known that. This may not be… how he planned to deal with it, but we have to do something. If he has to choose - really has to choose - he'll choose me."
A sigh escaped the older man and he shook his head. "Natus —"
"Luke," he corrected, "but you already knew that."
"It's the name your mother gave you."
"I'll handle Father and get you the intel. I need your word that when this comes out - because Sidious sees everything eventually - we have a place to go."
"I can't unilaterally make that decision," Organa said softly.
Luke stood in the room, his sister's adopted father refusing to meet his eyes now. He felt exposed, even more than he had been before, but as he searched for the right path forward, dark eyes met his. "But I've been told I'm very persuasive. Get the intel, Luke, and I give you my word that you won't be standing alone in this. I'll make sure you're all protected."
The young Imperial loosed a surprisingly shaky breath and nodded. But then a flicker through the Foce caught his attention. The only warning he felt before the door burst open.
—-
Luke. The name was bizarrely familiar, even if it wasn't a common name on Alderaan or any name that stood out from her travels. Even so, the name had come crashing down into place, fitting in ways Natus never did. While Leia was relatively certain that Natus and Vader were not the son and father's given names, logic reminded her that Natus wouldn't have given his real name to a scruffy looking smuggler that would sell it to the highest bidder once he'd parted ways with the younger man. Even so…. the name clicked into place like a missing piece on a droid undergoing repairs. She couldn't explain it, but she knew it, and in her experience her instincts on matters like this were rarely wrong.
"You know you're going to get me in a lot of trouble," Solo said from a few steps behind her, his gait slower despite his height. Where Leia moved with urgency, her steps quick and precise, Solo seemed to be trying to buy time with his hands in his pockets, his slower steps, and the way he kept hanging back.
"I'll handle Natus."
"You seem real sure the guy I brought in is this Natus friend of yours."
"We're not friends," Leia countered and she could practically feel him quirk an eyebrow at her.
Suddenly - and irritatingly smoothly - he'd picked up the pace and had appeared at her side, confirming the quirked eyebrow and a lopsided smirk to accompany it. "Boyfriend then?"
"Certainly not."
Solo hummed softly at that, the smirk only broadening as if he were somehow invested in the answer. She huffed and turned her attention back to the office door they were approaching, channeling all of her irritation with the smug pilot into the quick shove she gave to them, barreling in without warning.
And there he was. Vader's own son standing with her father and she could feel the last tendrils of his attempted mind control burning away with her anger as his blue eyes met her own brown. "Leia," he breathed. "What are you—"
"You want to play Sith mind games with me, this is what you get," she snapped. "I found why there was no record of you coming to Alderaan. A smuggler? What could possibly be so —"
"Solo?" Natus demanded, gaze snapping behind her like he'd just realized the pilot was there.
Solo, for his part, raised his hands in mock surrender. "Don't look at me. Her eminence over here -"
"I told you to stop calling me that!"
"— came barging in, throwing threats around, and —"
"Enough," Father cut in, almost forgotten from where he'd been standing with Natus. "Leia, what do you mean by Sith mind games?"
Leia saw Natus tense a little at that and she had to struggle to keep her expression even. "He can manipulate some people to do what he wants. He tried it on me, but it didn't work."
"And you couldn't just tell me that at the time?" Natus groused.
"Usually you can find more information if you dig a little deeper rather than just relying on a liar's word."
"I didn't lie to you. I was trying to protect you."
"I don't need your protection, Luke."
It had been an impulse decision to see how he reacted to the name, and Vader's son certainly reacted. Something shifted in the air, almost like a chill had settled over them. His eyes - usually light and amused when he spoke with her - turned hard and the door slammed shut behind her without anyone touching it. Every one of his muscles must have been tensed.
But, strangely enough, it was her father that spoke. "Where did you hear that name?"
Leia blinked in confusion. Why would he know it?
"Kriff it all, Mara," Natus - or perhaps Luke - snarled under his breath and he turned that dangerous look on Solo. "She should never have used it with you."
Solo took a step back, real fear creeping into his expression. "Listen, I don't know what's going on. I just gave her the fake name your friend gave me. It's fake, right? Don't know, don't care. I'm just here to fly you in and out and get paid. No need to—" Solo choked to a stop, eyes widening and Leia saw Luke's head tilt ever so slightly, his fingers twitching at his side, and Solo couldn't seem to catch his breath.
"No!" Leia shouted, realizing what he was doing. "I brought him into this. I —"
"Luke, stop," her father said as he reached a hand out, clasping the younger man's shoulder. "You dragged him into this. He's an innocent bystander."
"That could now get us all killed."
Solo choked again and Leia looked between the three men frantically. She couldn't stop it. She had only wanted answers and now something that had been said had set Natus off.
"Then we make sure that his loyalty is with us. I imagine it can be bought, can't it, Captain?"
Solo nodded emphatically, but Natus didn't seem convinced just yet.
Leia's father loosed a shaky breath. "Luke, I know you don't remember your mother, but I do. You're right that she was my friend and that we trusted each other. I can tell you she wouldn't want you to hurt an innocent man."
There was a beat of quiet, save for Solo's desperate attempt to breathe, but then something changed in those blue eyes and Luke released the captain. Solo sucked in a lungful of air and dropped to his knees. Leia knelt with him, a hand on his back and coaxing him through it.
"You have two options, Solo," Natus said, his voice strained and raw. "You can continue to help me get to where I need to go when the Empire can't know and be paid handsomely for it or you can betray me. Neither the Senator or his daughter can save you if it's the latter."
"There an option in there where I just walk away?" Solo coughed out.
"No."
There was a long moment, but there really wasn't a. Voice to be made. Solo cleared his throat and gave a small nod, a forced nonchalance in his tone. "It's gonna be a hefty fee."
"You'll be paid. Regularly and in full each time."
Slowly - and steadier than Leia might have anticipated - the smuggler got to his feet and rubbed at his throat. "You got yourself a deal then."
The chill dissipated and Leia saw her father sigh heavily. "Alright. You should know what you're getting into —"
"No. Absolutely not," Solo countered with raised hands and a step back. "I'm just the pilot. I'm here to get paid, not get into the middle of whatever this is. Less I know the better."
Leia's gaze shifted between each of the men, but she was the one who spoke. "You better be there when he needs to leave."
"I like my head attached to my neck. Not crossing him, sweetheart."
He pivoted towards the door, leaving the three remaining. Leia turned back to them. "He may want to be kept out of the loop, but I don't. I won't be kept out. Start talking."
"Take a seat," her father instructed in that tone that said he knew he didn't have another choice. "We'll get you caught up."
—-
It was dangerous to have the Aeres orbiting the planet, but it added a sense of authority to the demands Luke had made. He hadn't told his crew anything but to remain steady over the north-western hemisphere, which would keep them on the opposite side of the planet that Krennic planned to use for the experiment, and to shut down the sensors that might pick up on said experiment.
The planet had been inhabited once, but after nearly twenty years of being used for various Imperial experiments, all that remained was a desolate wasteland in the Outer Rim that no longer even had a name. Only a number was left: EX1003, and along with the name and its former inhabitants, the history of the world had been wiped from existence as well. It was strange and it was eerie, but in a way that Luke didn't think would have bothered him before. It wouldn't have bothered him now if they weren't there to test a weapon that could erase the existence of any planet that Darth Sidious chose on his whim.
Luke rarely wore a military uniform, opting instead for dark robes that allowed him to move easier when an inevitable battle erupted around him, but he'd pulled the crisp white uniform from the back of his closet. It was stiff and limited his stride. The uniform boots were louder and his shuttle was met with an irritating number of crewmen.
"My Lord Natus," Krennic greeted, giving a small bow so that his cape swept out. "Welcome."
"All this wasn't needed," Luke answered with a sharp wave towards the men and women in Impirial Navy uniforms lined up along the sides of the walkway. "I'm sure they have duties they could be seeing to."
"Of course, my lord. It's just…. protocol, of course, when a ranking member such as your father or yourself or -"
"And what rank is that?"
That stopped him and he cleared his throat, seemingly desperate to hide his discomfort. He was nervous, which either meant that he expected this to go poorly, that Tarkin had been pushing down on him again, or both.
Luke met his gaze. "I'm not Tarkin. There's no need for some grand gesture, Director. Only results." From the way Krennic's tenseness eased just a little, it looked like Tarkin was the culprit.
"Of course, my lord. Your time is valuable, and I shouldn't want to waste any of it."
They moved together and the crewmen dispersed behind them, eager to get back to whatever work they had to do rather than stand at full attention to welcome Vader's son for a minute longer. Luke glanced out of the corner of his eye, watching Krennic. "You've said nothing of this to Tarkin."
The director appeared startled by the question given as a statement, but recovered relatively quickly. "No, my lord. You had mentioned that he might -"
"Try to step in? You and I both know he would. He's here for the glory. I'm here to further the Empire and make sure that our enemies are dealt with in the most efficient way possible."
Krennic nodded eagerly to that. "Of course. You'll see today that this weapon will have the capacity to bring any Rebellion to its knees before it ever gains footing."
"And the lead scientists on this? I'd like to meet them today. If things go well, congratulations will be in order." And if not, the whole Empire knew what his father would have done to them. The threat was certainly easy to hear in the unspoken words.
"I'm…. afraid he's still on Eadu. With the construction near completion, the refining of the additional crystals needed to bring the Death Star to full power has their focus."
Which made sense, of course, but Luke had hoped this would be his in to find out exactly who was working beneath Krennic. The whole program was a blackhole of information and he didn't want to find a way to destroy the damned thing just to have another one pop up in its place. Well, at least he had a location. He could track down information from there.
They moved through the station, the halls quieter than they would be once it was fully operational. They were running on a skeleton crew for security's sake at this point, which left Luke to wonder what essential work his welcoming crew had been pulled from. Krennic was nothing if not ambitious, and while Vader likely would have been his preference, Luke represented a chance to make sure that Palpatine praised the director for all of his accomplishments rather than Tarkin.
Doors slid open to allow them access to the battle station's bridge. A few men and women scurried - likely having taken a different route back to their stations so that they didn't appear to rush past their director and Lord Natus - but Luke's gaze was fixed on the viewport. He recognized the upgraded window that could be toggled between an unencumbered view of outside space, visuals piped in from the computer system, and the typical screen that blacked out the view when needed. In this case, they seemed to be following a droid on the ground that was feeding images back to them.
"I trust this test won't set off any alarms," Luke said as he watched the video sweep the desolate land below. "The Senate can't know about this yet."
"All precautions have been taken, my lord," Krennic assured him.
"And the target?"
"There's an old temple left standing in this hemisphere. We should get the exact coordinates… there we are."
Luke watched as the image flickered onto the screen. Standing tall against the ravished land around it was what he instinctively knew had been a Jedi temple. Ancient and forgotten, the decades had marched on as it had been left to neglect without the old Order to maintain it. Now, just as they had been, it would be wiped away until even the memory of it faded from the galaxy.
"My lord?" Krennic prompted.
"When you're ready, director," Luke answered, his voice smaller than it should have been. He listened to Krennic order a single reactor ignition to target the temple, and his voice might as well have been heard from down a long corridor as the younger Imperial turned to force himself to watch.
The entire base buzzed with power, gathering as the view shifted back to the planet from above, the droid that had been left to provide the coordinates not long for its existence. A chill swept through Luke as the shot went off, a single beam barreling down towards the temple and he squared his shoulders to keep himself still. It struck the planet, and even if he could no longer see the temple itself, he could feel it. The chill settled deep in his chest and spread through him as the planet exploded upward where the structure had been. It wasn't fear, but understanding. This was wrong.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Krennic asked, his voice filled with wonder as chunks of rock and plumes of fire reached up towards the atmosphere. "When completed, this base will be capable of fracturing a planet to its core and destroying it. No one will dare stand against the Empire."
"No one will be able to," Luke breathed, gathering himself. "You've done… well, director."
"Then you'll speak to the Emperor?"
Luke turned, finding the older man's eager gaze fixed on him. "I have good things to report to him, but it's not completed. I want to be kept up to date as things progress."
"Of course, my lord," Krennic answered, barely containing himself. It was what the director wanted to hear and what would keep Luke in the loop moving forward.
—
He hadn't lived a sheltered life. Violence and death had surrounded him from an early age and, just as Father had taught him, he'd learned to use it to his advantage. Very little phased him quite like each new piece of the dangerous puzzle that was Sidious' Death Star. With its completion the Emperor would have no use for both father and son to play the role of visible enforcers. The planet killer could do that work for him with no threat of pushback. The future that both Luke and Vader had known was coming for some time was rapidly becoming their present, and Luke could only hope he had time to destroy it.
No. He had to make time. The only way to do that would be to throw a wrench into the Krennic's process. He was gathering Kyber crystals from somewhere and sending them to Eadu for refinement to power the battle station's main weapon. Going directly to Eadu was risky, but he might be able to track down the mining operation and slow the process there.
Captain Renz greeted him in the hangar bay upon his return to the Aeres, putting a momentary pause to Luke's swirling thoughts as he picked through the reasons Renz wouldn't have simply waited for him on the bridge, as was their habit. The Imperial captain looked strained as he stood waiting at the bottom of the shuttle's ramp, and Luke forced himself to focus. "Captain."
"My lord," Renz greeted back, his back straight and shoulders squared.
Luke nodded and Renz fell into step with him. He didn't like the way the hesitation other man seemed unable to get around. Luke was many things, but he'd never been one to go after the messenger without cause. The only thing that sprang to mind was that Renz had overlooked a sensor that he'd been instructed to turn off to keep the Aeres from catching a signal from the Death Star, thought that wasn't probable either after all the years Renz had successfully cleaned up behind the Executor's former captain when he'd served as Commander for Luke's father. Renz was nothing if not thorough in his duties. "Whatever it is, Captain, out with it."
"We've been called away, sir."
Dread settled in. "By the Emperor?"
"No, my lord. By his Hand. She was… quite insistent. And quite perturbed by the fact that you were unreachable."
Ah. That explained the nervousness then. Mara never did like being told to wait.
"She said she would come to us and I know how sensitive you said this mission was —"
"You gave her our location?"
All at once the strain was replaced by offense. "My lord, I would never betray your confidence."
"Brave man standing up to the Emperor's Hand," Luke chuckled and his smirk broadened nearly to a smile. "Don't worry. You're under my protection. Even from her."
"Thank you, Lord Natus."
"I'll take her transmission in my quarters. Did she leave coordinates?"
"She did."
"Then let's get going." Everything else would have to wait. He didn't dare give Mara a reason to start asking questions just yet.

Notes: I had hit a point in this story where I had a lot of wiggle room when it came to events. It was more about keeping my own timeline straight rather than having to match it up to canon's. I took a few days to really work through to make sure everything's lined up timeline wise for the next few chapters and there'll be several cameos along the way! Some that we've seen before, some that we haven't. Anyone want to take a guess?
Next Time: Luke finds himself between his father, Mara, and his undefined new alliance with the Rebels when Mara pulls him in to help with an intelligence breach.

Star Wars The Pre-Prequel
Thanks to finding Pat Mandziy and his pre-prequel recap, I just need to write it out. (He's fun, check out his stuff.)
So, there exists the Core World and the Outer Worlds.
The Core Worlds are close together and can make decisions and products fairly quickly. The Outer Worlds are spread apart but have resource rich worlds still untapped.
Core Worlds want materials, Outer Worlds want luxury goods. But Core Worlds don't want to risk going out to the Outter Worlds, and Outer Worlds don't necessarily have the ability to make ships to go to the Core Worlds. Plus there do exist criminals.
Now, there are Taxes (boo) that can help fund the defense of the trade routes between Core and Outer space, taken from traders as they made their way through space. It kept trade low, but was used well enough to create Tax Free trade routes, so routes were safe and money was no longer being taken.
So the Trade Federation comes about. They will take Outer material to the Core marketplace. They will take Core goods to Outer Worlds. They make so much money and connections, and have so many (possibly war)ships that they become a Problem. But since they play by The Rules, there's no real way to stop them.
So the Trade Federation wants soldiers. More soldiers to protect their things in transit because crime does still exist. Core World Senate says that's against The Rules. Grumble grumble grumble.
But Palpatine (councilor in the Core Senate) approaches Nute Gunray (Basic official in the Trade Federation) and goes:
Palpatine: "Hey, work with me and I'll make you rich and get a seat in the Senate."
Nute: "Sure thing. I might even make my way up in the Trade Federation too."
Time passes and Nute does get a senate seat and make his way to the top of the Trade Federation. Then one day:
Palpatine: "Hey Nute, take these bags of cash and use it to buy stuff."
Nute: "Sure thing boss."
Nute takes bags and walks off.
Palpatine: "Hey, criminal henchmen of mine. Go rob Nute."
Nute gets robbed.
Criminal: "Okay boss, we stole the(your) money."
Palpatine: "Great. Take that money, find the sketchiest banks you can find and start investing in Senate Leader Vallorum's buisness."
So, now that Nute has a seat in the Senate he can bring up that 'his' Trade Federation needs more soldiers because 'clearly they aren't safe enough'. Some of the Senate agree.
Senate Leader Vallorum: "No, guys, come on. They have so many ships. If we give them soldiers they can be a real threat."
Palpatine: "Interesting. Counter Point; We let them have more soldiers, but we get to Tax the Trade Federation in the Tax Free zone."
Just then, a bullet flies past Vallorum's head. A scare tactic created by Palpatine.
Palpatine: "Hoo boy, we're not safe here in the Highly Guarded Senate Building. Let's have this discussion at my Good Friend Tarkin's planet Eriadu."
(During ALL OF THIS, Darth Plagus (Palpatine's master) is almost killed by the King of Naboo. So the King gets killed and 14 year old Padme Amadala gets put on the throne.)
So the Trade Federation Head Honchos and Senators head to Eriadu. The Trade Federation have Droid bodyguards and the Senators have Jedi bodyguards. There are probably 50 Droids and like 2 Jedi.
During a discussion break, the Jedi sense another assassin, probably to attack the Senate Leader again, so they go to capture him.
Jedi: "Stop Criminal! You won't succeed in killing the Senate Leader."
Criminal: "Who said anything about the Senate Leader?" *triggers a signal*
...
Messanger: "Hey Nute, can I talk to you in the hall for a moment?"
Nute: "Sure."
As soon as he is in the hallway all of the Droid Bodyguards start shooting, killing all of the other Trade Federation Head Honchos, leaving Nute in charge by default.
With Palpatine telling Vallorum and Nute how to sign their deal, things get signed off quickly. And since the murders happened on Eriadu, it's up to Tarkin to track down the killer. (Which goes nowhere because Tarkin and Palpatine were both in on it)
...
Palpatine: "Hey Senate, remember when all of my/our money got robbed from the Trade Federation? I 'found' it! You guys will never believe where. Senate Leader Vallorum's bank account! The same Vallorum that just made a deal with the Trade Federation to give them soldiers."
Vallorum: "Hey wait a second, this whole plan was your-!"
Palpatine: "Guys I think Vallorum might have been bribed."
Senate: "Hmmm..."
...
Palpatine (As Darth Sideous): "Hey Nute! Heard you were in charge of the whole Trade Federation! Congrats. So I have an idea for a deal-"
Nute: "Not now random person I do not know! This deal I just made sucks more than I realized!"
Palpatine (As Darth Sideous): "That's crazy. You know what you should do? You should show off the power you have by blockading that guy's planet from getting anything from anywhere."
Nute: "That's a great idea! What did you say your name was?"
Palpatine (As Darth Sideous): "Don't worry about that."
And so Star Wars: The Phantom Menace begins.

Padme has always been, to me, the aloof princess who's relationship with war in general, in her universe, is grounded in the novelty and aesthetic of it. You see a lot of modern politicians like that, who maybe even were soldiers once and now seem to have forgotten that war is Not A Good Goal.
Imo, a good chunk of the reason she went for Anakin, and not Obi-Wan, is the drama. Ignoring for a second that Obi-Wan would never break the code like that, but also not because that's why she never had feelings for him. The flashiness, the gritty grimey 'realness', the bad boy attitude, the senseless violence and passion of Anakin was something she had never known personally. Obi-Wan always has been capable of being as violent as Anakin, but he's been tempered, he's a lot more calculated, he gets into shit, kills people, but man he almost always comes out clean. Even his death was pretty much pristine. And so was she! even after being choked out entirely, she looked pretty perfect. Her whole life and the end of it had a very curated, crafted appearance and aesthetic and that was a part of being Queen and, later, Senator Amadala that she enjoyed.
And then Mr Badass Over Here runs through, covered in sand and blood and wounds, and falls to her feet. Her personal war-dog. She doesn't want to see the horrors of war. Not that she's incapable, we've seen that she knows how to operate in the field at the very least, but that's not her wheelhouse. But it is Anakin's . He's only known violence. From slavery to being a Jedi, a man who's body count suddenly skyrocketed ag age 9. this traumatised child of a grown person who's been awestruck by her from day one? a horror of a person, the product of a lot of war? perfect! he'll worship every aspect of her (until he turns to the dark side & is "suddenly betrayed" by everyone he knows and love) and i think she knew that. Their courtship probably involved a lot of her wearing perfumes that remind him of Tattooine on purpose. She loves to see him riled up, loves the fire in his voice, *loves* the feeling of setting her dog on the enemy, never to be touched by the real violence of it. .
But the thrill she gets when being touched by the violence of him? yeah that's good shit.
listen. padme amidala is a freak, okay. ever since aotc i’ve had to listen to bullshit arguments about how awful the prequel romance is, how anakin’s a red flag, blah blah blah. that’s a smooth brain take. first of all, of course he’s a red flag. that’s the point. you think padme doesn’t know anakin is ten pounds of mommy issues in a five pound bag? you think she looked at soggy weeping anakin begging her to love him and didn’t immediately think “yes i definitely will peg him” ?? you think just because she’s a queen turned senator that she isn’t just as horny and feral as he is? anakin wasn’t even pushy about it. he was just “oh btw i’ve been obsessed with you for a decade and live in a perpetual state of emotional agony but thats okay whatever you want is fine with me haha” and padme goes “yea okay i’m into that.” two minutes after he’s assigned to be her bodyguard she gives an obligatory little “i have a bad feeling about this” and then just fucking marries him. this is a woman who wore white to a blood bath. come on.
#im writing this while thinking about the insane freaky ds sex they probably had#like yeah she pegged him#he bit her once and fucking cried about it and that whole experience got her off greatly#high high high chance he only called her “my queen' or someshit in private#god their fucked up beauty and the beast but mental dynamic makes me so feral#nutting in her was probably the most power he's ever felt in his life#I'm fine don't ask

IMAGINE - Sith!Obi-Wan protecting Senator!Reader(F) from afar
A/N: I had this stuck in my head for a while and missed writing Sith!Obi-Wan. IDK if I'll turn this into a series because I feel like there's so much more to this story but I don’t know how these two will get their happy ending ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There were whispers of your skill, even Darth Dominus had heard them. For a senator, you were known to be clever and ruthless for your cause. The only problem was that you and Dominus were fighting for opposite causes.
As you left the senate chamber, arm in arm with Senator Amadala, you smiled and talked with your friend. Wearing a dress of black and gold followed by an elegant cape, you looked like a dark queen from a fairytale. Dominus allowed himself to look over your figure for a moment, noticing a small blaster on your hip. That was new. His brows furrowed as he brought his attention back to your face. Had something happened recently that he didn't know about?
No, Dominus shook his head. He was worried for nothing. If something had happened, he would know immediately. Despite knowing that, he couldn't ignore that the circles under your eyes were darker now and your lips were often pressed into a hard line, making you seem even more formidable.
However, tonight your lips parted into a smile and a laugh escaped you. From his hiding place just a little farther down the grand marble hall, Darth Dominus closed his eyes as the laughter reached his ears. The sound brought to mind the memory of your first meeting a few years ago.
You were new to the senate and Dominus was still Obi-Wan Kenobi. Through the force he could feel warmth cascading from you in welcoming waves. That warmth extended to him as you met his eye for the first time. Dominus will never forget the way you smiled at him that day. You were walking to your new office after addressing the senate floor for the first time. A smart blue dress trailed behind you as you walked, data pad in hand and a confused look on your face. You just finished making a powerful, compassionate speech.
After your moving but polarizing speech, the Jedi order knew you were going to need protection so they assigned their best negotiator and politically minded Jedi Master to the task. Obi-Wan was going to be in charge of your protection detail for a while.
“Oh,” you said, noticing Obi-Wan. You came to a gentle halt a few steps in front of him. You opened and closed your mouth once or twice before giving a nervous laugh. Your eyes were fixed on his face, your body refusing to move in the slightest.
“Senator,” Obi-Wan bowed with a smile, “I’m Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. I’m in charge of your protection detail for the foreseeable future.”
“Perfect,” you sighed with a little smile, “I seem to be lost so you’re just in time to be my knight in shining armor.” Obi-Wan felt a blush rise in his cheeks upon hearing your words. With a few words you had made him feel like a young boy again. Your honeyed voice was so genuine that Obi-Wan found himself immediately taking a liking to you.
With a warm laugh, Obi-Wan offered his arm to you and guided you to your office.
That was a year and a half ago. He was only your knight in shining armor for three days before he turned his back on the Jedi order. Still, he had never turned his back on you. Becoming Darth Dominus didn’t mean that he would abandon his role as your protector. From afar, Dominus had foiled a few assassination attempts and even some kidnapping plans that nefarious forces had in store for you.
As it turned out, you didn’t always need it. During the time that Dominus had left your side, you had become a formidable force. And apparently you had started carrying your own blaster recently. Gone was the girl that charmed her way into his heart. Instead, Dominus had heard how ruthless and cunning you became as a senator.
And he liked this version of you for so many different reasons. Some fragile part of you seemed to have been abandoned. You were now a tireless crusader for the republic and quick as a whip according to rumor. However, you were beginning to become a problem for Dominus’ plans.
“I’ll see you soon, princess,” Dominus muttered under his breath. He watched you disappear from view before he left his hiding place.
Unbeknownst to him, the reason you had grown into such a hardened senator was due to heartache. The most charming and kind man you had ever met, died at the hands of a Sith. That’s what the Jedi order told you, anyway.
You were going to make the Sith and the Separatists pay for taking Obi-Wan Kenobi from you.

In the Senator au does the jedi order just have a bail fund for Ahsoka 'will fistfight a god' Tano, Padmé 'is better than you' Amadala and Obi-Wan 'commits crimes as a hobby' Kenobi? Does Anakin get put into that bail fund or does tattoine have there own seperate bail fund for him and his numerous times in prison?
If the jedi order had to pay money every time those 3 needed to be bailed out it would be bankrupt in no time, senator anakin however is loaded for many reasons and so he takes personal responsibility for those 3 and any extra funds they may need

the highest ranking battle axe of a senatorial secretary left over after the trials called Je Dine-Ral was insulted on her fashion sense by Amadala dressed as a handmaiden one too many times and is like no fucking way. I’m putting a space monk in there instead of someone who’s just fucking one.
No one is going to argue when the Jedi saved us all.
Then she sees an article about Jedi Master Quinlan Vos humbly bowing out of the race for Sheyf, and it just so happens that she was one of his informants. He was always respectful in his dealings with her, trusted that she was good at her job, and was genuine when he complimented her Iridonian acid ocean pearls.
Unlike some people.
She knows that he has played a senator’s aide plenty of times over the years, and he played secretary, and even chef and cleaner, he know what people go through working on Coruscant.
Besides, that lovely overworked Commander Fox fellow likes him.
He’d do a better job than another Naboo.
Quinlan doesn’t see it coming till it’s too late, and somehow he ends up in the seat.
Quinlan Vos accidentally becomes chancellor. but it happens because he was trying to avoid being called in to do his duty and be the Sheyf on Kiffu.

A Strange Beginning//Obi Wan X Reader
part 1: Forever series
Summary: a strange disturbance in the force leads to you meeting A particular Jedi Knight. (And yes this is an old fic I rewrote.)
Word count: 1963
warnings: angst, grammar, cheesiness like two cuss words. Hope you enjoy.
An air of unease filled the polished halls of the Jedi temple, seeping into the minds of the residents there and creating a feeling of dread. Obi Wan walked briskly towards the doors of the Jedi council room, his head filled a multitude of anxieties. His thoughts quited when his sight fell on Master Windu standing outside the room. “Your thoughts are loud Master Kenobi.” “It seems That is the case with many today.” Obi wan said, walking towards his peer. “Who all is here?” “Sadly, most of our fellow Jedi are preoccupied at the moment.” Windu said as he opened the grand door to the chambers. Obi Wan only spotted one person inside the room, Master Yoda.
Obi Wan walked into the large, circular room, lined with chairs and Windu followed. The late evening sun shone through the large windows onto the decorative floor, giving the whole room a warm glow. “Master Yoda.” Obi Wan greeted the ancient Jedi as he crossed the room to sit in a chair. “Is this all the Jedi we have present?” “Afraid that it is, I am.” Yoda replied. Windu took his spot next to Yoda. “The sepritist movement has us spread thin, and the senate’s demand for Jedi is only growing.” Obi Wan nodded solemnly. He was well aware of the Jedi’s present troubles. “To the point we must get.” Yoda said. “A disturbance in the force there is.” “We are all well aware, I suppose our enemy can sense this too.” Obi Wan stroked his beard thoughtfully. “Do we have any ideas of what it could be?” Windu shook his head. “The only thing we know for sure is that it doesn’t necessarily feel... dark.” “And what precautions can we take to-“ Obi Wan was interrupted by an explosion of blue light from the center of the room. Blinded by the sudden light, Obi Wan shot up. He reached for his light saber and held the weapon in front of him, ready for anything. As the light subsided, Obi Wan noticed his fellow Jedi in similar fighting positions. The blue light faded and in the center of the floor say something the Jedi would have never expected. ***
You sat in the middle of a strange imposing room in utter shock, the strange book you had stumbled across in your hands. When your eyes feel upon the three armed figures you jumped to your feet. Panicked, you backed up to the other side of the room to distance yourself from them. You reached behind you into your backpack and grabbed your ukulele, you held it in front of you like a weapon. “Where the fuck am I?” You yelled. Yoda put away his light saber and the others followed. “Think I the disturbance this is.” “Why the fuck is that frog talking!” Obi wan lifted up his hands in a gesture of surrender as he slowly stepped towards you. “No one is going to harm you.” He said in a soothing tone. “Stay the fuck away from me! You warned. You were so overwhelmed that you didn’t even notice the tears streaming down your face. “Wh-Where am I?” “You are in the Jedi temple.” You have Obi Wan a look of confusion. “How did I get here?” Obi Wan looked at Windu, not sure of what to say. “You don’t know?” You paused and then shook your head. “Well, I-I, the book.” You lifted the book up for them to see. “I was just walking home and I saw this book so I went to pick it up and-“ At that moment, everyone’s attention turned to the door where a young padawan stood, breathless. He braces himself, trying to regain his speech. “M-Masters, droid army, right at our doors.” Windu turned to you. “Stay here.” He ordered as he and the other Jedi filed out of the room. You were in too much shock to say anything. The doors closed behind them and you stood alone in the room. You slightly lowered your ukulele and walked over to the window. You looked out at the vast city in front of you, the countless strange buildings, speaders, and signs. You were overwhelmed and confused but as you looked at the sight in front of you there was only one thing you knew for sure. This is not Earth. *** The three Jedi jogged to the doors of the jedi temple to meet their attackers. “I sense she is not a local.” Obi Wan said.
“There will be time to figure out the girl later, for now let us focus on the task at hand.” Windu said as they arrived at the entrance. The scene before them was one of pure chaos. Droids and Jedi were locked in battle, Blaster beams were being fired all over the place. The three Jedi Masters unsheathed their lightsabers and charged into battle.
Back in the council room, you paced back and forth, trying to get your thoughts straight. Unfortunately, the only thing in your head was, This is insane, this is insane, this is insane! you ran your fingers through your hair and took a deep breath. Ok, I just have to find those guys that were in here before and they will get me home, yeah, that makes sense! With your ukulele/weapon in hand, you walked out the door.
You were unprepared for how big the building was, and you were surprised by how deserted it was. cautiously, you made your way through the halls, on the lookout for anyone who looked like a threat.
Outside the temple, the fighting had died down. The others seemed to have the situation under control so Obi Wan was heading back to check on you and try to piece together this situation.
As he walked down the hall, he thought he could make out the sounds of a struggle. Warily, he snuck over to where the commotion was hiding in the shadows as to not be seen.
A few paces in front of him, he could spot two people struggling with their backs to him. the one he could make out looked like a bounty hunter . It was obvious that the bounty hunter had the upper hand seeing as he had the second figure in a choke hole. When the two figures turned, Obi Wan was shocked and irritated to see that the second figure was you.
He left from his place in the shadows and separated the bounty hunter from you. Quickly, Obi Wan disarmed him and with a swift blow to the head knocked him unconscious.
He turned to you, obviously not pleased that you had left the council room. “Master Windu told you to stay put.”
“Why the hell should I listen too that window guy?” You said, annoyed. “I want to know what the hell happened and you have answers!” You rubbed your neck, there was a red spot from where the bounty hunter had held you. “Why was he trying to kill me?”
Good question. Obi Wan thought to himself. “Lets get back to the council room, We have much to discus.
Masters Windu and Yoda returned shortly from the fight. They quietly conferred with Obi Wan while you made yourself comfortable in one of the many chairs.
The sun had almost settled over the busy city when the Jedi turned their attention to you. You sat up straighter and faced the Jedi with all the grit you could muster. “Where. Am. I.”
Master Windu seated himself in the chair directly across from you, never breaking eye contact with you. “Coruscant, the city planet. Are you familiar with it?”
“Look dude,I only know of one planet with people on it and that's Earth.”
Ignoring the fact that you just referred to a Jedi Master as ‘dude’, Obi Wan said to Windu, “I’ve never heard of Earth, I’ll check the data base for it.”
“I am Jedi Master Mace Windu,” He said. “These are Masters Kenobi and Yoda.” He gestured to them respectively.
“Y/N.” You turned to Yoda. “Sorry I- Um, called you a frog.”
Windu sat forward in his seat. “Walk us through what happened before you got here.”
You sighed. “Ok, I was walking home from work, Hence my uke, and I saw this book,” You motioned to the mysterious book which lay forgotten in one of the chairs. “It was just laying there and one one was around so I went to pick it up. And now I’m here in this... Space place.” You slumped in your seat defeated. “How do I get home?”
The Jedi exchanged looks, silently asking each other, How do we tell her?
Over the next hour, they explained to you that they didn't understand how you got here or how to get you back. They told you of the disturbance in the force you had caused, the Jedi and separatists and how the droid army was most likely a distraction for the bounty hunter to get you.
“So that's why the guy tried to kill me?”
“Not kill, most likely capture.” Windu said. “We have the bounty Hunter apprehend but i doubt we will get much out of him.” He paused. “ I also doubt that this will be the last attack on you, The sith in the separatists must have sensed your presence as well.”
You looked out the window into the now night sky. “how long will this take to figure out?”
“We truly have no way of knowing.”
You frowned and nodded. “I-I just have so many questions, Where will I stay, Can I even eat the food here, Is there even oxygen here?”
Windu lifted a hand to signal you to stop rambling. “We will answer all that in good time. For now, Master Obi Wan has notified me that Senator Amadala’s apartment is not in use.” He stood up. “We will keep you there for now and send a medical droid in the morning to examine you.” You watched Windu walk over and pick up the book. Nothing happened.
“What about those Sith guys? You said yourself that there will be more attacks.”
Windu turned to Obi Wan. “Master Obi Wan, You will be assigned to protect y/n whilst we handle this. Please escort her to the apartment, I’ll meet you there shortly.” You watched Obi Wan nod at Windu before turning to you and giving you a reassuring smile.
“Come with me please.”
***
Obi Wan showed you into the beautiful deep blue apartment, much nicer than any place you had ever stayed at on Earth. You gazed out the large windows at the busy airways. Flyings in the speeder over here had been quite the experience.
Obi Wan motioned to the hall way. “The bedroom is over there, you will find all the necessities and a change of clothes.”
“I-I’m probably gonna just sleep in this.” You said referring to the clothes you were wearing. You were in such a weird place emotionally and physically, the last thing you wanted to do was put on some space clothes. That would be too real.
“We have surveillance setup and I will be here to make sure everything is all right.”
“Great.” You said making your way towards the bedroom. Nothing like being watched by a space wizard all night. Before you made your way into the room you turned to look at Obi Wan. Your eyes locked with his beautiful blue ones, which gave you a strange sense of calm.” I know I seem really ungrateful but truly, thank you.” He smiled and nodded at you.
As soon as the doors closed behind you, you fell onto the bed and hugged the pillow. you could hear another person enter the room and begin taking to Obi Wan. You recognized the voice as Windu’s.
“I checked the data base Master Windu, there is no known planet called Earth.” He paused before continuing. “Where do you think she came from?”
The conversation halted for a moment before Windu said, “I think she is from somewhere far far away.”
You closed your eyes tightly. Maybe if I just wish hard enough I’ll wake up. You opened your eyes and felt tears well up in them. You were still in the dark bedroom on a strange planet.

Star Wars vs Reality
You know when I think back on the Star Wars movies, it blows my mind how similar the actions of Chancelor Palpatine were with the actual real movements of what Hitler did in real life. I mean, Palpatine basically used Princess Amadala to encourage the Senate to see the desperateness of her cause and usher in total power for the Chancellor. Check out this quote
from...https://aemailer.club/make-money.../star-wars-vs-reality-2/

"Isn't he friends with Senator Amadala?" Rex asks.
"I think so! Bail Organa right?" Ahsoka smiles brightly.
Rex and Ahsoka stare at Luke for a moment, before their eyes slowly drift over to Anakin, before they look to eachother like they've figured something out
Luke grumbled as bit as the new X-Wing prototype exited hyperspace, why’d someone design a new starfighter to not have an Astromech was beyond him, he misses Artoo. He quickly grabbed the control stick when he exited hyperspace in the middle of a battle. “What is this, a clone wars reenactment?”
@ask-luke-skywalker-rp
Ahsoka spots the odd ship first, shouting to the clones to cover her while she attempts to make contact with it. She has no clue where Anakin is within the mess of a battle, but she figured he'd probably notice it soon enough too if he hasn't already

EXPLORE LOCATIONS AROUND... YAVIN 4 !
YAVIN 4, also known as yavin, was the jungle-covered fourth moon in orbit around the red gas giant yavin prime. prior to and during the galactic civil war, it hosted the headquarters of the alliance to restore the republic. the surface of yavin 4 is divided into several continental masses, two of which are starloft and wetyin. landmasses are covered by dense jungles and rain forests whose flora included purple-barked massassi trees, grenade fungi, bioluminescent orchids, and climbing ferns. the verdant world had a comfortable, temperate climate but a challenging ecosystem and dangerous predators.
yavin 4 currently belongs to the new republic.
VORNEZ is a small village established near a rebellion base after the end of the galactic civil wars. it houses many families that are former members of the rebellion who have retired for a more peaceful life.
JEDI PRAXEUM, formerly known as THE GREAT TEMPLE, has been refurbished with to become the new jedi temple. very few inside of the republic known that this is what is has been repurposed to. set up in the last two years, it is a unique institution where new and old jedi could learn together. while under the rebellion’s occupation, the interior of the temple changed drastically. duracrete walls, current technology, and ship bays quickly took over most of the temple's rooms transforming all but the original throne room and tunnels hidden below. from time to time one could still feel the echo of the dark side of the force from when the temple had been occupied by the sith. it is still being refurbished.
GEONOSIAN BIO-LAB was a hidden base where they performed medical experiments and shortly after the battle on yavin both the holo-generators fell revealing the base to a local rebel cell. when these generators fell, the sentry droids alongside the battle droids that protected the base soon fell prey to the local rebellion cell who sought to fully secure the area. if only they had known of the horrors that the geonosians and the imperials had created there. (for examples of their experiments, one would need to travel back to the beginning of the clone wars on geonosis where the jedi knight anakin skywalker, master jedi obi-wan kenobi, and senator amadala faced them within the geonosian execution arena.)

I’m watching Clone Wars
I’m watching clone wars for several reasons:
1. My husband said I’d love it.
2 He said it filled in the timeline between the 2 and 3 prequel.
3. He said it makes Anakin likeable (he’s right).
4. I’m jonesing for SW, but Mando Season 2 isn’t out yet.
Thoughts follow, but I’ve just started season 3. I know I’m late to this discussion, as I’m sure the fanbase has had it for years. Regardless, I decided to give it a few episodes to see if I like it. I do; I’ve continued watching because it’s genuinely a good show about heroism, and sacrifice. But the more I do, the more feelings I have about the Republic, the clones, and the Jedi.
The clones are disposible people. They are built, literally bred, to fight in the war. From “birth”, they are grilled in combat and war and fighting and violence. They are living machines of war. Senator Amadala attempts to stop the creation of more clones in Season 2 but it’s painted as a moral objection to continuing the war rather than pointing out that they’re mass-producing sentient life to send it to die. I expect that the Republic is set up this way to 1. show why they fell to Palpatine; and 2. to present them as a society in moral decline.
I expect more from the Jedi. Somehow, the bastions of hope in the galaxy had little issue with the creation of disposible people for the war. Yoda makes it clear they are people to him, but not people enough to help them, or stop their creation. I know that cloning is a way more common technique in Star Wars but it feels like someone on the Jedi Council or even in the rank and file should go, “Heeeeey, guys?”

Meanwhile, the ritual didn’t only turn the Corries in Dooku’s custody into tooka, but the whole lot. Amadala was bemused about suddenly being guarded by two tooka kits who still insisted on doing their job, while the Senate was suddenly overrun by tookas instead of clones.
perhaps the biggest surprise came from the prisons, where the inmates were incredibly well behaved for their new feline overlords, the inner politics shifting as those of feline species were better able go understand and negotiate with their guards.
the civilians on the verge of riot settled down in their bewilderment as riot shields fell to the ground, and a bunch of very young tookas stood where the flesh droids had a moment ago.
shockingly, they all had different patterned coats, and what did that mean? were they not all the same as one another? and why were they so young? some of them still had a triangle tail!
commander fox was trying to do his paperwork, but it wasn’t really working. his claws couldn’t hold a stylus or data-pad. And he kept getting the urge to claw his way into the Chancellor’s desk drawer and steal these cylinders that cried like babies.
what the hell was with that?
Dooku captures a squad of Corries while trying to catch Amadala (who got away with Jek and Alter, because she’s nothing if not slippery) and decides to experiment on them in typical Sithy fashion.
The only thing is, he makes a mistake somewhere in his translation of the archaic Sith script and the date of the ritual, and ends up a pack of hissy, bitey very ancient looking tooka kits, with the most gorgeous coats that make them look a little like baby foxes.
Dooku stares at the kits, they stare at him. the biggest one, which is larger than one of Dooku’s thighs (and by the size of its feet it’s set to grow even larger) looks set to pounce—except that it suddenly pauses as the sound of an a cappella song drifts down the hall, and every tooka freezes, and then as the song goes on, they calm down.
Dooku raises an eyebrow. Quinlan always sings in the shower, and it’s a frustratingly endearing trait, for a pretty bit of arse he’d taken to bed to let off steam during such a stressful time. Fighting the most inefficient war in the history of the galaxy on purpose has been far more taxing than he’d ever expected.
Dooku looks at all of the tookas with their ear cones primed in the direction of his singing lover/acolyte, and sighs.
…
later, as Quinlan Vos sits down to a delectably late breakfast, he finds a basket full of sleeping tookas with red ribbons tied in bows around their necks where his plate would usually be set.
